Review of Top Hat (1935) by Leighton T — 19 May 2011
I found this one a little more wanting than Swing Time, which seemed to make something more out of what it was. This one is exactly what is. That said, I still loved it. There are no two other performers like Astaire and Rogers and to have their films means there is still some fun to be had.
So, though the mistaken-identity plot gets stretched thin, it still a wonderfully inventive, funny, and lively musical with a tremendous amount of Irving Berlin songs along the way. (Oh, and who knew Lucille Ball was in this!).
