Review of Rubber (1936) by Leighton T — 17 Aug 2011
"No reason".
And thus for no reason we sit there for about an hour and a half and watch a psychoctic tire destroy things and kill people. It's quite hilarious in that it's a nice spoof of the typical, revenge road thriller. But, I question some of the writer/director's moves with all the film commentary/meta referencing, which at first are ingenious and hilarious, but then become a bit over the top and even browbeating. The ending, with the tricycle leading its tire minions to Hollywood's gate seems to be Dupieux's commentary that he's coming for LA. If so, I look forward to see what he cooks up there, cause he's a pretty creative filmmaker already.
