Review of Days of Heaven (1978) by Leighton T — 07 Jun 2011
A masterpiece. A beautiful film, and more and more tremendous the more I think about it. Starkly written characters with minimal dialogue allow the film to flourish and it remains engaging throughout. The film is sensual: it engages just about ever other sense in that you can almost taste, smell, and touch the film in various ways.
Malick's use of image is extraordinary. The cinematography is some of the best put to film and the performances are intensely restrained and perfectly managed.
