Review of The Incident (1967) by Blais E — 11 Feb 2011
Dramatically-weighty, intense character study detailing the unpleasant events that befall a group of commuters on a New York subway train after a duo of animalistic thugs (Martin Sheen and Tony Musante-) board and instantly begin terrorizing them.
Filmed in stark, black-and-white photography, and with superb acting by a multi-ethnic and generational cast as the passengers (Donna Mills, Brock Peters, Thelma Ritter, Beau Bridges, Jan Sterling, Jack Gilford, Mike Kellin, and Ed McMahon (!) in a surprisingly good perf-), who eventually begin standing up to the two miscreants in varying degrees, each reflecting their different personalities.
Unsettling and thought-provoking, and still extremely relevant considering today's society's seemingly-endless propensity for violence.
