Review of L'Avventura (1960) by Ryan C — 12 Aug 2009
Yes, director Michelangelo Antonioni has crafted a puzzle that is meant to have missing pieces (and oh does it), but in this case I feel like it's missing so many pieces that the viewer can't even make out a clear picture.
This, however, is judged after a first impression, and unfortunately this acclaimed film didn't really strike me any way. I'll give it credit for having a completely haunting screenplay/cinematography/soundtrack, but not much substance to complement these technical elements.
I have this strange feeling that there's something to be gained from the movie, but right now there's nothing. Maybe I'll try again someday.
