Review of Nashville (1975) by Jordan C — 24 Apr 2010
Before I go on, I should comment that I only got through 45 minutes of this movie. The problem is that those 45 minutes were so painfully slow, so boring, so devoid of plot, interesting characters or development, that I simply could not continue.
Somehow, this movie made it into AFI?s list of the 100 greatest movies of all time. I am completely baffled by this. I understand that it might have gotten better, but if a film can?t spark even the tiniest ember in me almost half-way through, I can?t believe it would fare much better if I watched it all.
I can?t really say if the acting was any good or not, because the characters were so one dimensional that no one would have been able to make them interesting. There is almost no story to speak of, I didn?t laugh once, I just kept looking at my watching going ?how much longer do I have to watch this?? Watching a movie should be a pleasure, not a chore.
If I have to be miserably and bored out of my skull for 45 minutes before I see even a hint of the ?genius? people profess this movie to be, then it?s not for me.
