Review of Wild Strawberries (2012) by Sabra E — 31 Jan 2011
This film reminds me of a less candies out version of A Christmas Carol. An elderly physician reflects on his life through dreams and revisits the people who were in his life before he was corrupted by meaningless actions in his career and relationships which consumed him with malignant disdain. Ultimately, he sees the folly of his ways and is redeemed through love from his family.
The predictable Bergman style and temperament saturates this 1957 film, making it an undeniable trademark to his collection of cerebral, existential masterpieces; though it was a tad bit slower than his other films, and took three sittings to watch.
