Review of The Station Agent (2003) by Sabra E — 07 May 2011
I really enjoyed this movie. The emotionally distant, straight-forward dwarf; the hyperactive, nosey, chatty hot dog vendor; Patricia Clarkson. Somehow what started out as a minimalist story with annoying or stand-offish characters ended up being quirky with an elegant depth, featuring the most lovable, unconventionally compatible people.
When I say minimalist, what I mean is this movie could easily have been set on a stage with sparse props and would have remained just as effective. Hypotheticals aside, the director McCarthy is starting to carve out a name for himself with his richly unique profiles of people resilient through times of crisis.
