Review of Wild Strawberries (2012) by Peter F — 30 Jun 2014
Ingmar Bergman's portrait of a world-weary professor is one of the great films about aging. Victor Sjöström, in his last screen performance, does a tumultuous performance as a man both benevolent and bitter, and really connects to audience's during the film's warmest moments.
A very transient script (perhaps a result of Bergman's hospitalization) also makes the film have a particular mantra for the director's filmography, complete with vivid dream sequences that make the film surreal in parts, yet never distract from it's plausibility.
Another masterpiece from Sweeden's most revered auteur, and a singular entry for him if only because it ends so optimistically for a change.
