Review of Hellboy (2004) by Sabra E — 01 Mar 2011
When this movie came out in 2004, I wasn't quite into comics yet like I am now, so I thought who the hell is this red guy with muscles and guns and who the hell named him Hellboy?
Well, that was my loss in 2004 and every other year until now. Thank goodness my attitude changed with my wisdom, because like a clown car spraying free cotton candy into a crowd, Hellboy was one strangely entertaining vehicle.
Mad props to Guillermo Del Toro for putting it all together with the heart and humor of a spoiled toy store delinquent. Ron Perlman had brilliant timing, the fish guy was the most adorable fish guy I've ever loved. And if anyone can imagine wrapping their brains around a silly, uber-fantastical X-Men meets Indiana Jones meets Predator concoction, then Hellboy is the place where all your dreams, or nightmares come to meet in a chunky sundae.
