Review of La Dolce Vita (1960) by Sabra E — 27 Jan 2011
I watched this the night before hopping a long flight to Milan, my first time in Italy, to set the tone for things to come.
This was probably a bad idea considering a) most of the film took place in the more exciting capitol, Rome, and b) Milan is basically the Philadelphia of Italian cities--aside from the foods it's known for, shopping and a few pieces of historical architecture, the activities are tame.
In the film a dashing columnist wanders in various social circles cultivating rich experiences in a time span of seven days. He parties his way straight through, with enough odds and end to supply a hypothetical memoir including such events as a seance, seductive rich debutantes, a triple homicide and a giant sea monster beached on shore as the icing on an all night rave.
