Review of Where the Truth Lies (1999) by Lynne N — 12 Sep 2007
So much potential to be a good film - and so it's an even greater shame that this movie falls short of the mark. It hovers somewhere between a badly made noir and dodgy porn. Colin Firth's character even openly states that the graphic girl on girl action is not essential to the plot! Alison Lohman (who is hit and miss at the best of times) looks far too young for her role and for the genre as a whole.
Colin and Kevin, both favourites of mine, are also lacking conviction. And the 'big reveal' leaves you cold - I really didn't care! There are some redeeming features in the production and costume design but overall it was fairly pants.
