Review of Mysterious Skin (2005) by Lynne N — 17 Jan 2009
Wow - not an easy subject matter to deal with, but I can't imagine any movie handling it better than 'Mysterious Skin'. The two leads - Gordon-Levitt and Corbet - deserve far more credit than either have received, and they are supported by a more than capable cast, including a surprisingly good turn from Michelle 'Dawn from Buffy' Trachtenberg.
And the direction is superb - the camera shows the viewer just enough to leave no doubt as to what's occurring, without ever straying into needless or voyeuristic violence. It's not an easy movie to watch but, if you can handle it, it's well worth the effort.
