Review of Werckmeister Harmonies (2001) by Michael S — 16 Mar 2014
It has been quite a while since a film so thoroughly entranced me. From the first of it's 37 shots, I was hooked into a world that could very well only exist within the realm of film. Other styles simply wouldn't be able to capture the graceful power put on display here.
Tarr is certainly a film maker's sort of film maker and it would be difficult to recommend this one to casual audiences, but if you like fully original and challenging allegorical works. This film is nearing classical perfection.
