Review of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) by Ryan D — 09 Feb 2011
A musical, without any really big musical moments. It's more like a fairly normal movie with normal dialog being sung instead of spoken. There are no *pow* moments in the music, that would separate scenes any more than the acting and plot create transitions in the scenes.
And while certain characters do carry their own musical style, the music doesn't vary a whole lot. Like the movie's musical style, the movie itself is not sunshine and rainbows just because its in the musical genre either.
It tells a normal story. It comes off very real even though everyone is singing.
