Review of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) by Erika R — 05 Jun 2012
A stunning all singing (100% the way through) exquisitely photographed French Musical. The three part story this film was wrapped around was quite socially appropriate for the era of the film.
It was fascinating to see all singing for 90 minutes and done that well it didn't get annoying. Both Romantic Leads we not only good singers but very capable dramatic actors as well.
This film was one of the most incredible displays of Art Direction... the candy like colors in this film has are incredible. The locations are the third actor in the film, Cherbourg is brought to life with stunning color & vibrancy. This is an all singing musical that is in French so won't be for everyone but it's a delightful treat if you want to see something different.
