OK, maybe the suspense and twist haven't quite stood the test of time (mainly because its plot devices have now been imitated so much they have become central to the way we make sense of movies now), but this is still an incredibly entertaining and actually a visually beautiful film.

It must have some of the best B&W cinematography of all time, surely. Joseph Cotten is great, but it's amazing how Orson Welles just effortlessly takes a monopoly on your interest once he makes his first appearance - what an actor! Add a good dollop of subtle humour that remains capable of triggering a few giggles and you have a true classic.
