A novelist writer, Holly, finds himself in Vienna. A friend, Harry Lime, has recently died there and naturally he get's involved. The police are there, witnesses are there - Holly is in the middle of it, trying to help solving the mystery. He likes to do most of it by himself and spends time with people that knew Harry. Especially a girl that was extra close to him.

The story is rather fast paced and the dialogues come frequently and fast. It's not especially hard to hang on too it, even if the story is very mysterious and you want to figure it out for yourself. Smart and very clever film, mystery noire at it's absolute best. It feature some great music too, but sweet images, shorter scenes and some conversations makes it really watchable.

Great usage of shadows, in tight night streets and especially in the later sewer scenes. I will remember it for those scenes especially. Welles has great presence. It's well acted out in general but Welles manage to put something extra to the film, even with a rather short amount of screentime.

8 out of 10 balloons.
