Review of The Dark Knight Rises (2012) by David B — 20 Dec 2015

8 years on from the night that Batman (Christian Bale) decided to become a wanted vigilante in order to up hold the criminal convictions of deceased District Attorney Harvey Dent. Bruce Wayne has become a wounded recluse and Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) is feeling the weight of the lie the both of them perpetrated for the greater good. It is only when the masked dangerous terrorist Bane ( Tom Hardy) decides to bring Gotham to his knees, facing this new threat and mysterious cat burglar Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway), Wayne decides that the Dark Knight must rise once again.

Although 2005's Batman's Begin's was a relative box office hit, it's follow up the 2008's The Dark Knight 's became that years most anticipated film , in 2012 some 4 years later understandably the wait for the final part of Nolan's Batman trilogy is palpable. After TDK grossing over a billion dollars worldwide and receiving reviews rarely given to big budget blockbusters Nolan had set himself a monumental task to follow this phenomenon up. I guess it depends where you sit if the origin first film was more to your liking than the hugely ambitious sequel then maybe you'll feel Nolan has topped The Dark Knight although this viewer feels that he has fallen slightly short of that film.

What Nolan must be commended for his is his ability to weave all three films together to create a cohesive and compelling saga, Rises without doubt the most epic of the trilogy and rightly brings to a epic close which may or may not satisfy viewers.
