Review of The Conformist (1971) by Roger T — 23 Jan 2011
"The Conformist" is unusual and fascinating, but is excessive in spots. It follows the life of a disturbed individual in Italy who is assigned to head to France where to assassinate a fascist human being, I believe.
The are some great parts to this film, including the singing by the trio of woman, the cinematography, the dance scene at the restaurant, and the assassination. As well, I like how the main character was unfaithful to his new bride, who I thought was more attractive than the other female, and the fact he was molested as a youth.
However, I wish the film was shorter since it dragged in parts, and the plot was highly convuluted. For me, it was confusing at times and I was unsure what would enventually happen. Overall though, it was relatively interesting film from the Italians.
