Review of The Conformist (1971) by Andrey B — 08 Jul 2017
The best Bertolucci film I've seen so far. A lot have been said about this beautiful piece of cinema. Indeed, it's as beautiful visually as it is complex and profound intellectually. Jean-Louis Trintignant is brilliant in the role of "the conformist", a man who tries to drift along the waves of current political agenda even if it changes every other day.
The director shows us a complex portrait of a man who failed to deal with his childhood traumas and therefore suffers in his adulthood.
