Review of The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) by Indi V — 19 Aug 2011
Technically good, but llike every other William Wyler film I've seen, something prevents it from reaching masterpiece in level. In this case its two of the three main actors. Dana Andrews is just so utterly lifeless and has all the charisma of a dying fish.
Fredric March is a little better, but he's really over the top in his early drunk scenes, and his character's alocholism isn't really explored. Luckily the film has Harold Russell, who certainly deserved his Oscar.
Russell is amazing and does not have one false note or misstep in his performance.
