Review of The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) by Ricky F — 08 May 2015
I'll be straight out here. I think the film, while not a terrible film, has been seriously over rated. The characters were somewhat short of being completely convincing for me, and it played much to heavily on the "love of a good woman (as a housewife, of course)" and the "happy every after" memes.
I strongly suspect that the timing of when it came out contributed to its academy award status. In a sense it was a feel good movie about the aftermath of WWII. By rights the best movie belonged to It's A Wonderful Life.
