Review of Spartacus (1960) by Pandy 3 — 18 Dec 2010
A classic historical drama!!!
The set off is quite interesting and intriguing as it literally throws you into the struggling life and unfairness that exists between slaves and masters. Slaves are not animals but human beings and Spartacus may not be rich in possessions but he is certainly rich in character.
Overall the movie begins with a lot of promise and excitement while later on it takes a slower pace, only to burst towards the end with an intense battle that compensates for any previous dull moments. The ending scene is the most emotional in the whole film.
The best elements of this epic film is Kirk Douglas's amazing performance, the graphic costumes of the roman era, the terrific battle scenes, and Stanley Kubrick's incredible cinematography and directing.
Definitely watch it, and between you and me "I am Spartacus!" ;).
