Review of La Strada (1954) by Leif H — 08 Jul 2010
One of the most incredible neorealist films I have seen in a long time...first off Giulietta Masina's performance was astounding (what peculiar expressions!). Her acting is unlike anything you've probably ever seen before or will ever seen again.
She is so full of wonder at everything she witnesses in the film despite being treated so brutally by Anthony Quinn's character (Zampanó). She is all he has, he is very violent and hateful in contrast to his character.
Another wonderful performance in the film was Richard Basehart's character "The Fool". He is hilarious, however he doesn't know when to he's gone too far. The ending is a powerful one.
Nino Rota's score for it is wonderful too, going along well with the circus scenes. I highly recommend this film to anyone with good taste in cinema.
