Review of Bone Tomahawk (2015) by Ricardo R — 30 Oct 2015
Richard Jenkins delivers the performance of his career. Which is saying something, since he is almost always great. His voice is high in this, maybe an homage to Walter Brennan. He is almost unrecognizable.
And he is sensational. The other three leads all do very very fine work. Overall a terrific horror western. One complaint: The non white people as savages is unfortunate in 2015. I would like to see whites as savages in westerns, which is more truthful, seeing as Genocide is savage and The American Indian Holocaust, known as the "500 year war" and the World's Longest Holocaust In The History Of Mankind was pretty savage.
But that said, in terms of a simple horror western, this one is funny and terrifying. Hopefully the next movie this director makes is more politically complex and accurate.
