Review of Kaw (2007) by Joe L — 24 Oct 2009
Saw it on SyFy. Not sure if it's a "SyFy" original, but it sure looks like one: Dumb, overacted, over saturated with subplots, stupid characters, bad make up effects.
The ravens are the only attraction of this movie, but had there been anything else on TV other than "Are We There Yet?" and Golf, I'd have watched something else. Why is it dumb? Well, the characters throw themselves on the ground (face up) at the mercy of the ravens, walk backwards and fall into a well, dye of a few pecks on the face. I usually don't care for the plot or script as long as the characters are more intelligent and not so overly dramatic and as long as the subplots have some resolution at the end. This movie has none of that. There's an outbreak of mad cow disease, guilty Mennonites, a Mennonite curse, a bus driver who's really hit bottom, etc. By the end of the film, none of these subplots have any conclusion. It's only interesting feature is that the ravens are very intelligent. In one scene, they become agitated when the deputy comes out with a shotgun and only settle down when he takes it inside. In the scene with the bus and the three teen girls, they grab rocks with their feet and as they fly, throw them at the windows on the bus.
