Review of Vanishing Point (1971) by Pure Rock Fury — 29 Jun 2008
"Vanishing Point" could have been so good if it didn't feel like it blew it's proverbial wad in the first 40 minutes. Good car chases have been able to elevate movies in the past and some car chase movies such as "Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry" have been able to vault the idea by making each successive chase scene better than the one before it.
In "Vanishing Point", the overall chase subsides about halfway through and slows this movie down to a near crawl. The end is fairly predictable but still manages to send this movie out on somewhat of a high note.
Definitely not quite as entertaining as Quentin Tarantino's endorsements via "Death Proof" would lead you to believe.
