Review of Dust Devil (1992) by Trev B — 17 Sep 2009
Watched this because I'd heard it described as "stylish" and a "cult hit" but I'm now quite angry that I lost the time I spent watching it. An ineffective Namibia/South Africa-set "horror" with a poor cast who deliver terrible performances from a stilted script, it's hard to see why anyone would have liked this.
The "style" that was mentioned somewhere seems to consist mainly of an over-use of red lens filters. The only points of trivial interest are the appearance of Lieutenant Eckhardt (William Hootkins) from Batman as a slightly more principled cop and Chelsea Field, who played Man at Arms's daughter Teela in the Masters of the Universe movie (also god awful, obviously) as the female protagonist.
Stuff happens, stuff happens, the end. Fucking rubbish.
