Review of Until Death (2007) by Terri H — 13 Dec 2008
I'd heard that this was supposed to be a performance of high quality from Van Damme. It was certainly good by his standards and as good as anything that Keanu Reeves has provided.
The performance reminded me of Replicant. There we see Van Damme performing a dual role as a bed wetting pyromaniac killer and his mentally slow clone. Here we see him play a bad cop and his post coma redemption seeking self. After his coma he suffers from some mental impairment and as a result is quite slow. I also enjoyed Replicant and I think anyone who enjoyed either of these films will probably enjoy the other.
I thought it was interesting to see Van Damme in a tale of redemption. Of course interesting because his idea of redemption involves killing about twenty guys to show that the kernel of goodness hiding in his chest could win through.
What a guy!
