Review of Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974) by Slick R — 14 Nov 2018
Michel Cimino's first film is by far his best. Yes, he may have won the Oscar for 'The Deer Hunter' but Thunderbolt and Lightfoot is an unparalleled story of male bonding thinly disguised as a heist movie.
Jeff Bridges was nominated for the Academy Award for his performance and Clint Eastwood was unjustly snubbed for a nomination for his role as Thunderbolt. A film with many layers and ambiguous themes of homosexuality, in reality it's Thunderbolt's growing empathy for Lightfoot that leads to the films tender, yet heartbreaking finale.
Scripts with endings like this one are no longer made and that's an awful shame. Thunderbolt and Lightfoot is 5 STARS and a top five Eastwood film.
