Review of Thunderball (1965) by Steve B — 20 Nov 2012
I think I've turned around a bit on "Thunderball". The first time I watched it, I felt like it might've been a little silly...had goofy gadgets and wasn't nearly as strong a film as the first three.
..but in rewatching it I can see it as an excellent addition to the Bond franchise, and while I don't think it is as good as "From Russia with Love" or "Goldfinger", it is a lot of fun to watch.
I enjoyed the underwater sequences, which were quite well done, and I like both Emilio Largo (who is the main on-screen villain) and his boss, the mostly unseen Blofeld, who would make his first real appearance in the next film.
Connery is as good as ever in this one (though his toupee is not). While I found it average upon my first viewing, my second viewing has me seeing why this one has been regarded as a classic of the series.
