Review of The Yakuza (1974) by Ricardo A — 02 Sep 2011
The action set pieces were phenomenal. Although the film is slow in part, once the action gets going its worth it. Short bursts of action that leaves you breathless and in awe of its execution. The assassination of Tanner was standout.
The attempted assassination on Kilmer is unique and entirely of the film's own invention. Dusty and his prowess with his .38 special is adrenaline inducing. And the final battle, all katana, all action.
Highly effective. I think I'll reevaluate Sydney Pollack as a director. This film in proving him as highly adept as a director, makes me want to see Three Days of the Condor all over again.
