Review of The Yakuza (1974) by James W — 02 Sep 2011
An undervalued thriller with insight into Japanese notions of loyalty and obligation, fine writing by Schrader and Townsend and good performances by Robert Mitchum and Takakura Ken. It's sense of sadness and fatalism matches that of "Three Days of the Condor," though the subject matter of both is entirely different.
A great film for Japanese culture lovers and noir enthusiasts.
