Review of Zatoichi on the Road (1963) by Bill B — 13 Feb 2016
Zatoichi returns in a film where he's on a journey somewhere, meets someone and takes it upon himself to help them thus resulting in a different journey, then it all comes back around to his original journey.
.. and this journey is "on the road". In fact, I think most Zatoichi movies could have the title On the Road cause that's usually where we find the title character but in this films he's not only a good swordsman, he's honourable, smart, cunning, devious, and true to his word.
This is the kind of honourable samurai movie you might expect from a Zatoichi film. While I don't exactly find his fighting skills all that great... considering he's blind, it's a clear indication that nobody else has much skill.
This makes Zatoichi seem like something out of this world almost. He is possibly one of the first Japanese superheroes. Worth checking out and a must watch for fans of samurai films and Zatoichi in general.
