Review of The Towering Inferno (1974) by Christine R — 23 Nov 2008
The two kings of cool, in the same movie. McQueen and Newman shine. And apparently they hated each other in real life. There was a small team of lawyers hired to work out exactly how their names would be billed on the poster.
(in the end McQueen's was first with Newman's presented second slightly higher up?) but the film itself, surprisingly still holds up as a great piece of action suspense movie making. The clothes and style are dated, as is the interior decorating, the tower has a garish 70's feel.
But it doesn't detract that much from what is essentially one of the best in the genre of disaster movies.
