Review of The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) by Timothy M — 19 Aug 2012
Norman Jewison directs this gold standard of heist films and a true classic of the studio system. Steve McQueen stars as Thomas Crown, a millionaire who orchestrates the perfect bank robbery. The bank, to try and recover their money, hire Vicky Anderson (Faye Dunaway) who is an insurance investigator.
She is able to obviously do some things that the law and her police "partner" Eddy Malone (Paul Burke) can do. What follows is a combination romance slash cat and mouse game between Vicky and Tommy in an attempt to try and catch the millionaire and bring him to justice.
McQueen has never been more charismatic and is at his best when he is trying to outwit his other actors. The chemistry between McQueen and Dunaway have a great chemistry together. It is just so much fun watching two great actors locked in a battle of wits.
A fun film that just always work.
