Review of The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974) by D H — 16 Jun 2009
Though the set-up is very predictible, I enjoyed the ride and its atmosphere so much that I couldn't help but enjoy this little gem of a movie. What I also enjoyed was that it wasn't overproduced that played the moments just right.
Matthau as Lt. Garber does a wonderful job of thinking on the fly and remaining calm as he talks to the Mr. Blue (played by one of the best villains around in Robert Shaw). What I also enjoyed in Pelham are the little side jabs and cynical comments by the supporting characters and maybe it is a NYC thing at that time (I highly doubt it) but they used the word G**D*** at least once every minute on average.
