Review of The Strangers (1998) by Trevor R — 10 Apr 2013
There are some really scary moments, but the whole premise relies on immense stupidity on the part of its primary characters. The horror genre (particularly home invasion flicks) are dependent upon audience empathy with the terrorized characters-- placing ourselves in their shoes-- but this script makes it virtually impossible.
There's about 15 minutes of actual story here, stretched paper thin to make a full length film. "The Strangers" also has perhaps the most laughable claim of being 'inspired by true events' in the history of film marketing.
