Review of The Steel Helmet (1951) by Aaron S — 24 Oct 2009
I can't believe this movie got made in 1951. Unflinchingly honest and brutal, it shows American soldiers as nothing more than breakable human beings with as many flaws as the next person. Not to mention the realistic dehumanization that occurs when men are thrust into a situation they aren't prepared (or are TOO prepared) for.
And to think, it was made in 3 weeks with a cast of UCLA students for a shoestring budget. God bless Samuel Fuller.
