Review of The Space Between Us (2017) by James R — 05 Feb 2017
You're probably wondering why I watched this movie. Hell I'm still thinking why I watched this movie, but hey I don't get to choose em all the time. Anyways if you've seen the trailer you've probably got 90% of this plot down, but here it goes.
Gardner Elliott (Asa Butterfield) is quite a unique 16 year old boy. First off he was born on Mars, but kept a secret since it could ruin the company that funded the trip and project on Mars. Gardner has been raised his whole life around scientists and shows some easily genius levels of knowledge.
His only connection to Earth is a 17 year old rebellious girl named Tulsa (Britt Robertson) who looks 26...because oh wait she is in real life, but anyways roll with the fact she's suppose to be passing as a high school student in this one.
On the request of Gardner's somewhat mother figure and fellow astronaut Kendra (Carla Gugino) Nasa decides to bring Gardner home. When word gets out Nathaniel Shepard (Gary Oldman) comes out of retirement to try and stop Nasa urging them to consider how weak Gardner is and would not survive on Earth.
Soon enough Gardner arrives and he has one mission: to find his birth father. He soon escapes Nasa (because it's hella easy) and teams up with Tulsa to find his parents. Nathaniel and Kendra lead Nasa?.
..the Feds? It's really not clarified, but anyways they try and stop Gardner before he ultimately expires. The movie is predictable which isn't always bad, but there's actually a twist to this film that is easily catchable about 15 minutes into the movie.
The film itself is a romance in a way between Gardner and Tulsa and for the most part its believable, but the acting itself has some wooden ass dialogue which are almost cringe worthy. The film also features some absolutely ridiculous plot holes like security at Nasa, a random Vegas trip, a sex scene that gets a little awkward, etc.
Overall, this is some real basic shit. Skip it or give it a rent at the very least if you're interested in the subject material.
