Review of The Shrine (2010) by Tomek M — 02 Jun 2011
This film was a hefty blend of gore-fest stomach-turning scenes (e.g. the Saw films) and psychological assault. I like the latter, when it's done well, and I hate the former, regardless of how well it's done.
Because of this I was sort of teetering on the edge of liking what I saw as I progressed through the movie, but in the end I realized it was pretty freakin terrible. The stupidity of the main heroine and the boyfriend's willingness to follow along was incredibly frustrating, and the poor girl that got caught in between just made me feel sick to my stomach.
Aside from the scene with the statue in the fog, The Shrine brought absolutely nothing to the table.
