Review of The Searchers (1956) by Derrick A — 25 Nov 2008
This film is THE most beautifully ever shot. Not to mention that it is a film that speaks to some of man's darkest suffering and you really do have a film of true power. As to the mixture of humour with darkness, that's a device to relieve the tension so the director can build it up again, Hitchcock did it also.
Why do John Ford's films last even though they are definetly of their time. Because he is a true artist.
