Review of The Searchers (1956) by El%20 G — 27 Jul 2018
Arguably John Wayne's greatest performance. His representation as former Confederate soldier Ethan Edwards is brilliant. Resistance to overcoming his bigotry and checkered past make this savior seem more the villain.
In fact, some have positioned as such in past reviews. Ultimately, doing the right thing, though, dismisses this notion to this reviewer. His embracing the fact that he does not fit into the 'New West' at the end of the film displayed by Ford's iconic closing shot will emotionally grab you.
Must watch over and over.
