After years of glowing reviews of the series I really expected more... however, it is quite enjoyable.
Niven is wonderful, as always. Sellers is not as cartoonish as he is in later sequels, so it really is the one to start with... otherwise, you'll be surprised by the "subtlty" in comparission to the later versions.
