Review of The Pink Panther (1963) by John P — 29 Mar 2008
Like the Pink Panther diamond itself, this caper-comedy gem continues to glow.
Down through the years. Glossy, bright, and slick, it might have.
Remained just another "Blake Edwards" picture - except.
That it gave the world one of its most beloved comedy icons:
The bumbling French detective Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Peter Sellers). Clouseau isn't in it.
All that much - we see far too much of David Niven as an aging jewel-thief/ Lothario; but you can tell something's coming. Nicely humable Henry Mancini score. Great Saturday night nostalgia. Big hair!
(Bring champagne & pretzels).
Best line: "You see one Stadivarius, you've seen them all.".
