Review of The Phantom of the Opera (1925) by Danny M — 16 Dec 2007
A classic of the silent genre, with some solid, non-Webber music. Lon Chaney gives an astounding, if melodramatic, performance (I think he can be forgiven, since he wasn't allowed to talk), mercilessly drowning people, hanging them, or dropping chandeliers on them.
And the image of the ballerinas running in terror up the staircase is a damned evocative one.
