Review of The Lady Eve (1941) by Mike N — 08 Jul 2007
Possibly the greatest romantic comedy ever made. Barbara Stanwyck is simply perfect. Henry Fonda is also surprisingly great as a dead-serious heir-turned-ophiologist (snake professor...boy, that's not Freudian or anything) who has just been "up the Amazon for a year" and has simply no idea what's happening to him.
The script is amazing, featuring more brilliant one-liners than the average standup comedian could come up with in a career. I haven't seen Preston Sturges' other films, but I doubt they could come close to the perfection of this one.
