Review of The Lady Eve (1941) by Scott W — 01 Mar 2015
This delightful movie reminds me of some of the best Fred and Ginger movies (without the music). It even has the great character actor Eric Blore, a staple of those Fred and Ginger films. I think the strongest part of the movie is the first half hour, when Jean is trying to charm Charles.
The scene where she is lying with him running her hand through his hair is very sexy. And the card game where they try to one up each other is really funny. I'm not sure I buy all the plot twists in the last half, but there's not much wrong with this movie.
After seeing this and Double Indemnity, if I lived in the 40s I would steer clear of Barbara Stanwyck. She's trouble!
