Review of The Lady Eve (1941) by Tim T — 10 Nov 2007
The Lady Eve is proof that screwball comedy can be great film.
It works perfectly as a comedy -- a couple of con artists on the make. But it's the subtlety and the double entendre that pops this movie to the next level. Fonda and Stanwyck can discuss snakes with such a light touch, it's delicious.
Later, when the plot twists in on itself you start to see how Biblical and yet goofy the whole game of love can be. Sturges at his best.
